In physical chemistry why does the boiling point increase with pressure?

In physical chemistry, we learn that the boiling point of a matter (liquid or solid) increase when pressure is applied to that. Can someone tell me how.

  1. the molecules are bumping and jumping in the fluid pressure is like making a prison so you dont see the bubbles
  2. maybe this site will help u : http://astro.uchicago.edu/cara/southpole.edu/boil.html
  3. yes. temperature, pressure and volume are all related. Have you ever heard of cavitation? Cavitation is where you use pressure to turn a liquid into a gas.
  4. Download the free physical chemistry education software from http://www.goldenkstar.com They have a gas law module. There you can see the animation of how molecules behave.
