organic chemistry? I've realized that i have to take organic chemistry in college. Can someone tell me what you actually do in organic chemistry?
For Those Who have taken Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry in College, which is harder? I have just taken my Organic Chemistry Final Exam. After two semesters of organic chemistry, I have to say this is the hardest class I have taken because of the volume of information that I have to memorize. I have already scheduled Physical Chemistry for the fall semester, and I am asking those who have taken both Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry in college. Which is harder, and...how much harder is it than the other? Should the blood the sweat I poured into Organic Chemistry help me in Physical Chemistry?, or will I be in for a rude awakening?
What are good websites to learn Organic Chemistry? I'm looking for a website that goes in-depth into hardcore Organic Chemistry, but one that can also explain the material in a clear way that's easy to understand and take in. I've looked around, but am open to new suggestions. Anything is helpful! Thanks! I wasn't trying to diss book learning or anything (I have a huge required textbook): I was just trying to find some other way to learn the material. The reason I ask for websites is that they tend to have animations that might be helpful.
What is a good book for learning organic chemistry? I have organic chemistry demystified but topics seem out of order and all over the place and the explanations very elementary. I understand the subject but would prefer something that sums up major points.
How do I make organic chemistry easy and enjoyable? I am junior in college and have basically made A's in every class except for chem. 1 and 2. Chemistry makes me completely miserable, but I need to complete Organic Chem. 1 and 2 with A's in order to get into med. school. No matter how hard I study, read, or work problems, I can't ever seem to make an A. The labs are the most monotonous experiences I have ever had and I can't ever do good in them either. Most other classes I can enjoy and make them fun and interesting but this stuff just completely makes my head hurt and puts me in a horrible mood. Suggestions and answers for making it simpler, more interesting/fun, how to get an "A", etc. etc. would be appreciated.
what should I focus my studies on when preparing for intro to organic chemistry? I will be taking "introduction to organic chemistry" in two weeks. I hear that it is a very hard class and would like to read through some of the chapters to prepare. Specifically what aspect of organic chemistry should I focus on most? What will most likely help me to succeed in this class? Tips? help is appreciated!
What can I do to prepare myself for Organic Chemistry? I'll be taking Organic Chem next semester and am kind of scared, knowing the reputation that course has. Even my brilliant brother received poor grades in the class, but since I've got a GPA to maintain and grad schools to impress, I need to do well. I am very good in the academic world and tend to learn quickly, so hypothetically it should go well, but what can I do over the summer to increase my chances of doing well? Are there any "Idiot's Guide To" books on Organic Chemistry? Online lecture notes? Anything would help. Thanks in advance!
How hard is organic chemistry? Organic chemistry 1 and 2 I have to take as a requirement for my major. I don't feel like I'm really strong in chemistry, but I am good in biology. How is organic chemistry different from general chemistry? I've already taken general biology 1 and 2, microbiology (which touched briefly into a little biochemistry) and I'm currently taking genetics. Do you think if I have a good grasp on these concepts I'll be ok? I'm doing qualitative analysis right now in general chem 2, it's just all the formulas to memorize and math equations to do is kicking my butt. Is there this much equations and math in Organic chem?
What can I do to make myself understand Organic Chemistry? Last year I took Organic Chemistry I, had a miserable teacher, learned and understood very little, and somehow ended with a C minus. With no background of understanding at all, I took Organic II, tried to understand but it didn't work. I read the text, class notes, bought Organic Chemistry Demystified and tried sparknotes, made flashcards, spent time in the professor's office reviewing things; but failed to understand the material when it was on the test and ended with a D. Now, since the courses are required for my major, As much as I despise it, I have to re-take Organic Chemistry from the beginning but I need some help. What else can I do....I just cannot get the reactions in my brain and understand other concepts.
Can you take Organic Chemistry having only taken General Chem 1? I need to take Organic Chemistry but I only have time to take one semester of Chem before that. Most colleges I have looked at require 2 semesters of Chem before O-chem. Is there a school where I can take it with only 1? Online class would be good too if possible. Thank you!
Is there an Organic Chemistry software that solves reactions? I am looking for an Organic Chemistry software doesn't matter if it's free or not, that solves alkene reactions, alkene halydes etc, and gives the products of the reaction. (if it's a reduction reaction etc). Like for example what would be the product obtained from the reaction of Br2 with 1-butene if the reaction would be carriout with ethyl alcohol. You write the formula for that in the software and you'll get the product, etc. I am not looking for 3d modeling atom software, I already have that. I know that this exist somewhere, but I don't know the name of the software. I'll appreciate your help.
How should I study for my Organic Chemistry final? I've got a O-Chem (first semester) final in a week. What's the best way to study all the reactions and be able to apply them (like in retrosynthesis)? (is there a helpful website??) What worked the best for you? Also, is there some pattern in O-chem that I'm not noticing? Because it seems to me that everyone's able to understand and do well on tests but I'm missing some important clue on how to attack this subject... Please also list any specific study notes or patterns you've developed when studying organic chemistry. Thanks!!
My major is Pre-Pharmacy. Is it okay for me to get a B in organic Chemistry? I am planning to go to pharmacy school..I was wondering if it is gonna be a problem to get B in your organic chemistry. The class is really hard . it is one of the hardest class in my university for undergrad students. will the schools that i am going to apply look for the fact that I took the course in university rather than in community college? If some one can give me an answer that would be great..... Thanks......
I need a book that has pretty difficult organic chemistry problems. Suggestions? I am struggling in organic chemistry. I am spending a lot of time on it, and I feel that I am understanding the material quite well. However, I found the questions on the exam extremeley hard. I did all the problems in my textbook, but didn't help. They are much easier. So I am wondering if you guys can suggest me a book that has pretty difficult organic chemistry problems. I need more practice. Thanks.
Can a B+ in Organic Chemistry get me into medical school? I understand that Organic Chemistry is not ALL that matters, but it does seem to hold a place of high importance in the minds of medical school admission officers. I was wondering if my grade in O-Chem would suffice for a school such as Yale School of Medicine? In General Chemistry, I also made a B+ and I will be going on Bio-Organic Chemistry this Fall as a Sophomore. I am going to be a Neuroscience major and have received AP credit for General Biology. Any advice or answers are appreciated.
Is AP Chemistry 2 an inorganic or organic course? I happen to know that organic chemistry is a much more advanced form of chemistry than inorganic so I was just wondering what type we learn in AP chem. Or do we do a mix of in/ and organic chem??? All advice on this course and tips on how to crack the exam will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
How do I explain this Organic Chemistry problem? Suggest an explanation for the fact that 1-methylcyclopropene is some 42 kJ/mol less stable than methylenecyclopropane. ______________ I don't understand what this homework problem is asking and I'm totally confused. I had everything until I stumbled upon this question. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Organic Chemistry Structure and Preparation of Alkenes: Elimination Reactions
How should I prepare for Organic Chemistry? I'll be taking organic chemistry in the fall and I'd like to know how to prepare for it ... like what kind of books should I start reading ahead of time before classes start. I really dont want to get behind in the class... and for anyone who has had the class is it really as killer as i heard it was?? What kind of grades did you get in it?
What is Organic Chemistry? What Role does Carbon Play in it? Hey. I am doing a project on the element Carbon, and I need to know what organic chemistry is and what role carbon plays in it. I know that organic means containing carbon, and I don't need to know too much detail. I am only in 8th grade, so no college explanations, please. =] Thanks a bunch!
How were your organic chemistry class and textbook? I'm hoping to teach, and write a textbook, and I'd love to do both in new ways. What stuff in your organic textbook was completely useless? What was really confusing? Just give any opinion you got. Best Answer will go to the most insightful.
What makes organic chemistry so hard? Next year I planned on taking organic chemistry to fufill my pre med requirements but from what I hear, the course is extremely difficult. I was wondering what makes organic chemistry so hard? Is the material really that difficult or is it just an insane amount of memorization? Maybe a mixture of both? And is there anything I can do to prepare for organic chemistry to make my life easier? Thanks for the help :)!
Can anyone suggest some software for organic chemistry? I was trying to purchase or find free software that allows you to practice solving reaction problems or also allows you to review and practice important organic chemistry concepts. Software similar I guess you would say to the Jump Start they have available for younger children.
Organic Chemistry: How does the molecular size of a molecule affect its boiling and melting points? I've noticed that with organic compounds, as a molecule gets bigger (more carbon atoms), its melting and boiling point increases. This has to do with intermolecular forces. Why does it require more energy to break the intermolecular bonds of a bigger molecule? Aren't the dispersion (intermolecular fores) the same for both molecules? C-C-C-C --- C-C-C-C (dispersion between 2 butane molecules) C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C --- C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C (dispersion between 2 octane molecules) Can someone please explain? Gervald, can you explain why bigger molecules can induce bigger the temporary dipoles?
How much studying for Organic Chemistry?? I have a strong understanding of general chemistry. I would like to take Organic Chemistry on the quarter system. How much studying will I be doing each night/each week? I am trying to rearrange my work schedules in order to adapt to the time I need to devote to this class in order to receive an A, A-, or B+. Your advice is much appreciated.
Organic Chemistry???? I have a question concerning Organic Chemistry. I have already taken both of the Inorganic Chemistry classes (General Chemistry I and II) and received A's in both the lectures and the labs. I have heard horror stories about O-Chem, is it really that much harder? We had a teacher for Inorganic that drilled us, she was so hard that even people from a lot tougher schools thought she was terribly hard. She really emphasized the theoretical part of Chemistry as well as the calculations. I didn't really have that much trouble because I love Chemistry. Anyways, I just wanted some advice from someone who has already been there.
Could you give me tips for passing Organic Chemistry with a good grade? I am a visual and analytical person and supposedly math isn't used that much like in General Chemistry nor Inorganic Chemistry. Some people tell me is the easiest class of all the Chemistry classes and other tells me is the worst. I am not a numerical person and I have had trouble with the past classes Chem classes but I passed them. Being a visual person do you think is going to be better for me? Could you tell me something I don't know lol? Have you taken the class? Was it easy for you as a person not so good at math?
Organic chemistry? cell/molecular biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, inorganic chem 1 and 2, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology 1 and 2, physics 1 and 2 calculus, all gen eds, I took a short course in organic chemistry (one semester) for my allied health degree. Is it really necessary to have organic chemistry 1 and 2 if you are looking into medical schools? Thanks! I already took all these.
